A 'Potted' History of Arklow Presbyterian Church.
According to official minute records the first church committee meeting was held on 29th April 1913.
Present were Mr. J. McCullagh, Mr. J.A. Crammond, Mr Stewart, Mr Forde (treasurer and secretary) and a student minister the Rev. Irvine Stoops.
After meeting in various locations, in 1914 a permanent church was erected at the present site and the opening service was held on the 29th January 1915.
An extension was added in 1924 and another in 1985. Throughout its history the church has been well served by many faithful ministers.
The first was the Rev Dr. Wylie and the most recent was the Rev. J. Carson. The first Communion Service was held on 1st May 1915 at which there were 17 communicants present.
Through God’s blessing the church has grown over the years. Currently there are over 100 people of all ages closely associated with our church, almost half of which are under 18years of age.
We thank God for all His help in the past and we trust Him to continue to bless us in the future.
